EVENT
Saturday Night Jazz DTLA presaents Paul Cohen

DESCRIPTION
Paul Cohen, drummer/singer, is excited to announce the release of his first vocal CD entitled "I Want You Back," with his quartet composed of Jane Getz on piano, Dale Fielder on saxophones, Bill Markus on acoustic bass, and Paul playing drums on most of the tracks. Paul is joined on some of the tracks by guest artists, Steve Cotter on guitar, Tom Walsh on drums and Edwin Livingston on electric bass.

As a young musician in New York in the late 1950’s and early 60’s, Paul appeared on drums on the live recording of Lennox School of Jazz historical concert with Herb Pomeroy’s big band featuring Ornette Coleman and in the small group of Jimmy Giuffre. He worked in New York with Charles Mingus, Gunther Schuller, Bill Evans, Eric Dolphy, and in the Paul Bley trio with Steve Swallow. He toured with Ed Summerlin’s orchestra.

Then he went to law school but continued to play in New York where he recorded on the Archie Shepp-Bill Dixon Quartet’s iconic first album.

He currently lives in Los Angeles where he leads the Paul Cohen Quintet.

Paul also practices law in Los Angeles and has been named a Super Lawyer

by Super Lawyer Magazine.

A few years ago Jane Getz recognized Paul’s skill as a singer. This led Jane to compose for Paul the title cut "I Want You Back." This tune is way into Pop territory but is clearly Jazz musicianship at its finest.

EVENT
Bicentennial Birth of Baha'u'llah

DESCRIPTION
Good afternoon, I hope this message finds you well. The KKJZ Family and your loyal listeners are invited to join in a world-wide celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh. Bahá’u’lláh—the “Glory of God”—is the Promised One foretold by the Báb and all of the Divine Messengers of the past. Bahá’u’lláh delivered a new Revelation from God to humanity. Thousands of verses, letters and books flowed from His pen. In His Writings, He outlined a framework for the development of a global civilization which takes into account both the spiritual and material dimensions of human life. For this, He endured 40 years of imprisonment, torture and exile.

Please join in Irvine's participation in these global festivities on the evening of October 21, 2017. As Dizzy Gillespie, a member of the Baha'i Faith and a pillar in the jazz community, brought together the influences of Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern sounds in his music, this celebration is drawing people of all races, creeds, and ethnic backgrounds. We look forward to your response.
